Sajid Akhund, EVP Transportation Group

Sajid Akhund serves as the Executive Vice President of ICS’ Transportation Group.  He has held high-level positions, such as Systems Manager for Salt Lake City’s Mid-Jordan light rail project, Project Manager for electrical systems, telecommunications and signaling systems; and the System-Wide and Commissioning Manager of the Athens Metro Extension Project in Greece.  He has more than thirty-two years of experience in project management, electrical engineering, construction management, testing & commissioning, and maintenance of rail transit systems in both the USA and Greece.

Mr. Akhund has been involved in planning and scheduling, scope-of-work development, engineering development, system integration, and installation and commissioning of equipment and rail systems.  His focus with ICS is on construction of transit systems.  His clients benefit from his construction expertise including traction power, signaling, telecommunications, track station electrical and lighting distribution systems.

Mr. Akhund previously worked for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) in the Department of Infrastructure Renewal Program as the project manager for electrical systems, telecommunications and signaling systems.  He was responsible for the development of contract scope of work, request for proposals for designs and construction contracts, funding requisitions and managing multiple contracts ranging between $2M and $20M.  As system-wide and commissioning manager of the Athens Metro extension projects, Mr. Akhund directed and managed multi-discipline installation contracts for signally, telecommunications, traction power systems, track, and electromechanical systems.

Prior to his work in Athens, he was the senior resident engineer for the Northeast Corridor Improvement Project, New York, where he oversaw the site installation of three substations and three switching stations, each on the sixteen-mile electrified route of Amtrak’s hell-gate line.  Mr. Akhund was responsible for the on-time completion of the $4.2M project.

He was trained in project management by Bechtel in London and Athens Metro and in contract management at WMATA. He received his B.S.E.E. from Sindh University in Pakistan and an M.Sc from Kings College University in London.
